Cosmetic Gynecology
My Women's Center helps patients interested in cosmetic vaginal or vulvar surgery, achieve the desired results in an experienced, caring, and professional environment. Dr. Hutson has practiced gynecology for many years, and is an expert in vaginal reconstructive surgery. She is very knowledgeable about the anatomy, nerve and blood supply, and healing characteristics of this sensitive area and has performed thousands of these procedures with excellent results. Having the technical skills, an artistic eye and striving for perfection, she is well qualified to perform your cosmetic gynecological procedures.
Cosmetic Gynecology is also known as aesthetic vaginal surgery, or vaginal rejuvenation, and includes surgeries such as:
-
labiaplasty
-
vaginoplasty
-
perineoplasty
-
clitoral hood reduction
-
hymenoplasty
These procedures can be performed in our comfortable office with sedation and local anesthetic or in an operating room under general anesthesia. Most insurance companies do not cover these procedures as they are considered cosmetic but our staff can work with you regarding pricing and financing options.
Most OBGYNs do not perform these procedures because additional training and surgical volume is needed to be proficient.
In addition, most plastic surgeons do not do these types of procedures and those that do, often do not have adequate training or surgical volume. Dr. Hutson has undergone rigorous training and is very experienced with these types of surgeries.
We also perform different types of pelvic reconstructive surgeries. These surgeries include:
-
cystoceles (anterior vaginal prolapse repair)
-
rectoceles (posterior vaginal prolapse repair)
-
cervix or vagina repair (vaginal apical prolapse)
-
urethral slings (for urinary incontinence)
Please take time to explore our website and if you have any questions or are interested in any of these procedures, we would love the opportunity to discuss your individual needs and questions. Please contact us to schedule your consultation.
Common FAQs
Who is a candidate for Cosmetic Gynecologic surgery?
Any woman who is not satisfied with the look, feel or function of their vulvar or vaginal area, may be a candidate for cosmetic gynecologic surgery, also known as aesthetic vaginal surgery. Many patients explain feeling as if they have something that might not be quite right or that something has changed down there …
They may complain of:
-
Enlarged or asymmetric labia that rub or pull
-
Swelling, wrinkles and hyper-pigmentation of the vulvar area
-
Unpleasing appearance of the vulva
-
Increased incidence of infections or irritation
-
Vaginal laxity due to childbirth, weight changes, or health conditions
-
Lost tissue and muscle tautness
-
A wider vaginal opening with loss of sensation with intimacy
-
Embarrassment in sexual situations with the look, feel, or function of the vulva/vagina
-
Bulging of tissue in the vagina
-
Difficulty with bladder or bowels
-
A small, tight vaginal opening that causes pain and/or bleeding with intercourse
Do the benefits outweigh the risks?
We think so! If you are unhappy with your vulva/vagina, improving the appearance and function of this area is important for your body image and overall health. Choosing a Board Certified, highly trained Cosmetic Gynecologist, who understands and is dedicated to the intimate female anatomy, reduces the chance of risks immensely. Infection, blood loss, organ injury, medication reactions, anesthesia complications, and being unhappy with results, are rare complications of these types of surgeries, but can occur, and are important risk factors to consider with any surgical procedures.
What can I expect during my consult visit?
You will meet with your aesthetic vaginal surgeon in a comfortable consultation room to discuss your concerns, desires, and questions. After discussing your individual needs, you may review some of our before and after photos and/or illustrations to better understand the procedures and see real results.
You will then change into a gown and have an exam of the area involved. This allows you and your doctor to discuss your individual issues and desires for change. Your physician may elect to take before pictures at this time, to help plan your rejuvenation.
If you decide to move forward with surgery, you will meet with the surgery scheduler to discuss a specific date and information useful for pre and post-operative planning. You will also meet with a financial representative from our office to discuss the cost and financial planning associated with your desired procedure(s).
What can I expect my recovery to be like?
Amazingly, in office labiaplasty or vaginoplasty patients may be able to return to work and their normal routine in as little as 1 week. Undergoing multiple procedures may take you more time to recover before you feel ready to return to life as usual. Much depends on the types of procedures you have, and the type of things you do! You will be on strict pelvic rest for four to eight weeks, and can expect complete healing to take place in about three months. We will help you with pain and discomfort post-operatively by giving you pain medications, recommendations for over-the-counter remedies, instructions on how to use creams, ice, ointments, etc. Remember, we are just a phone call away to help with any problems or questions that you may have.
How will aesthetic vulvo-vaginal surgery affect my sex life?
This depends on the patient, the type of surgery, and reason for the surgery. Most times, your sex life will be impacted in a positive way. By improving the look, feel, and/or function of this area, most women experience an improvement in their self-esteem making them more willing to engage in spontaneous relations. Vaginoplasty will increase the friction during intercourse, thus, enhancing sensation for you and your partner. Labiaplasty reduces the size of the labia, so if larger labia were interfering with intercourse, this will likely alleviate that problem. All in all, women seem to be very satisfied after aesthetic vaginal surgery, indicating a positive affect on their sex life.
What Is a Labiaplasty?
A labiaplasty is a surgical procedure in which the labia is reshaped or restructured. Labiaplasty can be done on the inner labia lips (the labia minora), the outer labia lips (the labia majora), or both. The purpose of the surgery is to reduce excess tissue and create the look and feel that the patient wants to have. Labiaplasty usually takes around one hour.
Who Is a Good Candidate for a Labiaplasty?
Most women who opt for labiaplasty have large, irregularly shaped, or uneven labia lips. If one of these problems causes pain during intercourse, irritation during exercise, or an undesirable appearance, a labiaplasty can be a good solution. Many women who suffer from problems like an oversized or irregularly shaped labia have intense embarrassment as a result. They may even avoid intimacy or wearing certain types of clothing as a result. A labiaplasty can greatly improve appearance and can alleviate embarrassment and other issues.
Can labial reduction surgery be reversed?
No. After labiaplasty, we are unable to replace what has been removed. It is possible to make some modifications post-operatively to achieve the look or feel you may desire. It would be very difficult to reconstruct the labia minora completely. This is why it is so important to seek out a highly qualified aesthetic vulvo-vaginal surgeon and to feel comfortable communicating your desires with this physician pre-operatively, to help insure your satisfaction post-operatively.
How much does cosmetic vaginal surgery cost?
Our prices range from $1000 – $5000 for each individual procedure performed, with discounts offered for combining procedures (i.e. having both a labiaplasty and a vaginoplasty) or for paying in cash. Keep in mind, anesthesia providers, surgery centers, lab work, and certain prescriptions, may be additional costs to consider. Again, our staff will do everything possible to elucidate the various costs involved in your particular case, as it depends on many factors and needs to be individualized.
What can I expect during the procedure(s)?
Whether your procedure is done in our comfortable office setting, an outpatient surgery center, or in the hospital, it is our priority to keep you involved, comfortable and confident in the direction of the care plan. Labiaplasty and vaginoplasty procedures are typically finished in 1 – 2 hours. If other procedures are performed in conjunction, such as a hysterectomy or repair of the bladder or rectum, the time would naturally increase. Various tools are used during these procedures such as a pinpoint radio frequency device, blades, fine scissors, sutures, and/or grafts, to excise, tighten, plicate, re-approximate, suspend, reshape and renew tissue and muscles, leaving you rejuvenated.

Can I have a vaginal delivery after aesthetic vaginal surgery?
Absolutely. There are no contraindications to vaginal birth after cosmetic vaginal surgery but there are some practical concerns. With vaginal delivery, the vaginal and vulvar tissues are stretched and may tear. While these can be repaired and will heal after the delivery, the tissues may not look, feel, or function like they did before your delivery.
Does aesthetic vulvo-vaginal surgery damage nerves and make it difficult to become aroused?
No, patients do not complain of numbness or difficulty achieving arousal after these types of surgery. The labia are not as important when it comes to arousal as the clitoris or G-spot. Most patients are as satisfied or more satisfied with their sexual arousal after these types of surgeries.
What Tools Are Used in a Labiaplasty?
The doctor will use an advanced tool known as the “Ellman Surgitron” device. This device is highly precise and is even more accurate than a laser. This surgical tool is so advanced that it allows for less pain, less swelling, and an overall faster recovery.
What Is Recovery Like After a Labiaplasty?
After a labiaplasty, most women will have at least a couple of dissolvable sutures to help keep the skin together as it heals. Most people can return to their regular routine in a week or so. During the first few days after the surgery, many women find that it helps to apply ice and topical creams to the labia, as this helps ease discomfort considerably. The labia area should not be disturbed for a minimum of four weeks after a labiaplasty, including intercourse.
Can vaginoplasty be reversed?
It is possible to make the vagina larger again after a vaginoplasty. It may not look or feel exactly the way it did prior to the initial procedure, though. This is why it is so important to seek out a highly qualified aesthetic vulvo-vaginal surgeon and to feel comfortable communicating your desires with this physician pre-operatively, to help insure your satisfaction post-operatively.
